  3. South Carolina - Dawn: A Charleston Legend
  • South Carolina - Dawn: A Charleston Legend logo
  • We'll be tabling at a PFLAG Charleston's special screening of Dawn: A Charleston Legend, the remarkable story of Dawn Langley Simmons, one of Charleston’s pioneering transgender women and a trailblazer whose life intersected with the city’s LGBTQ+ and racial history.
But the story doesn’t end when the credits roll.

In partnership with the College of Charleston’s Special Collections, we’ll go beyond Dawn to explore the people, places, and stories that make up Charleston’s queer history. Special Collections will bring archival materials and displays that offer a rare glimpse into the lives and experiences of Charleston’s LGBTQ+ community across generations.

Come see the film, explore the archives, and discover the queer history that has always been part of Charleston’s story.

In Support of Free Mom Hugs

Free Mom Hugs is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works to empower the world to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community through visibility, education and conversation. Born of one Oklahoma mom’s simple act of wearing a homemade Free Mom Hugs button to a Pride festival, today Free Mom Hugs has more than 50,000 volunteers, chapters in all 50 states, and affiliate chapters around the world.

Free Mom Hugs volunteers give hugs and go beyond the hug, too. Our volunteers give hugs at events and other gatherings and further support and affirm LGBTQIA+ individuals through public education and outreach. Free Mom Hugs actively partners with brands, companies and organizations to support our chapters and initiatives including chapter programs, events and education.

All donations are made to Free Mom Hugs, a national nonprofit organization, and may be used to support local, regional, or national programming.
